The Call Of Our Forefathers

Italy is still very much influenced by Catholicism and strong family connections exist in life and death -- and I wanted to close the missing chapters of Pasquale's life, so Tiziana, Franca and Ada took us to the city cemeteries in Giulianova and Teramo.   And  we were able to find what I could not discover in 1966.

Ada took me and Chris from Giulianova to Teramo, about 15 miles inland from the town center.  We met Franca there and Ada related the story of her Uncle Pasquale's return from the U.S. -- once back in Italy he eventually contracted tuberculosis and had walked to a sanitarium in Teramo where he later died in 1937.  Fortunately, the city burial history was intact and had Pasquale in its records and I confirmed it was him.  I could not actually gain entrance to the subterreanean crypt where he had been moved to some years ago but we were there.

Pasquale is interred in these catacombs, currently closed to the public.

Ada also took us to the Giulianova city cemetery and we visited the Raschiatore and Bonaduce family crypts.   These were solemn visits and helped us piece together and unify the family history.
