Lake
Campotosto
Capitignano is located
within the Gran
Sasso (big rocks) National Park and close by is a beautiful
scenic area created by Lake
Campotosto, the largest lake in Abruzze. Not far away is
an area is also
known as Little Tibet and is often a backdrop for films and travel
photography. The peaks in this area are among the highest in all
of the Appenines. Luigi and Maria took us after a short drive
to a campground above the lake and we enjoyed a spectacular afternoon.
This high country is very reminiscent of California's Sierra Nevada or
Wyoming's Grand Teton's -- this is probably a great escape during the hot
and humid Italian summer in the low lands.
Gran Peak (10,200 ft, 3228 m). Long tunnel located in
this mountain.
View from the campgrounds - this is 30 minutes from Luigi's house.
Rick and Marie taking it in.
