L'Aquila

Th capitol of Abruzze is L'Aquila, a city of about 70,000 inhabitants perhaps 35 minutes from Capitignano.  Luigi's daughter Ida and her husband operate a large general store and a small greeting card store in town; we also visited Luigi's son Alfredo and their family who live on the top floor of a wonderful flat not far from the city center (in the summer, they return to Capitignano and live on the first floor of the three-story Fulvi household).

This city is famous for its 99 churches and 99 fountains and has a university feel to as there are large medical and engineering schools locally.  L'Aquila also has a very large and imposing castle in the town center that Luigi took us to for a walkthrough.
